A Vision for Progress and Community in Avon

A Leader with Proven Experience and Unwavering Dedication to Avon's Community and Progress
I'm Michelle Patton McBride, a name you may already know in our Avon community as Michelle McBride. I've dedicated years to envisioning a brighter future for Avon, a place deeply ingrained in my roots, and a cause that I hold with unwavering commitment. My dedication is evident through my work with local charities and community initiatives, all fueled by a profound passion for progress and the betterment of our community. When you see my name listed as "Michelle Patton" on the ballot, rest assured that I am entirely focused on preserving Avon's unique charm while actively advocating for positive change.

CHERISHED ROOTS

"My affection for Avon started at a young age."

My parents tied the knot at Holy Trinity, and I enjoyed eight years at Holy Trinity School. I had the privilege of sharing unforgettable moments with a close-knit group of friends. If you graduated with me in 1982, you understand the deep attachment we have to Holy Trinity and Avon.

GIVING BACK

"I can never fully repay Avon, but I'm dedicated to the effort."

When my husband and I found our home in Avon, we discovered a remarkable city. Avon offered our children an exceptional education and a warm, generous community. Despite growth, it maintains its small-town charm. Over time, we formed close bonds with neighbors and fellow community members. Our daughter's wish to return to Avon to raise her family speaks to its enduring impact. Serving as your councilperson is my privilege and commitment to give back to our beloved community.

INSPIRING CHANGE

"I want to inspire my students to be leaders and make a difference."

Each year, I teach my students about local government, emphasizing mayor and council roles and representation. I also highlight the importance of equal representation of women, encouraging my female students to consider leadership. Unsurprisingly, they ask why I haven't run myself. This year, I'm announcing my candidacy for Avon City Council to show my students that their voices matter, and change is achievable. Regardless of the outcome, my class will celebrate my journey of determination and courage.

QUALIFICATIONS

"I tackle goals with hard work."

I excel in collaboration and hard work to achieve goals. I hold a Bachelor's and Master's in Education, National Board Certification, a Reading Specialist Endorsement, Wilson Language Certification, and over 70 graduate semester hours. My experience as a certified State of Ohio Praxis III Educator Assessor underscores my commitment to excellence and growth, making me well-prepared for Avon's future.

Enhance Traffic Flow

I will continuously examine solutions for Rt. 83, Detroit, Jaycox, and Nagel Roads and around our schools, with a focus on Avon High School to improve traffic flow throughout Avon.

Senior Center Expansion

I'm dedicated to expanding the Senior Center building and its programming. Let's explore partnerships with schools to provide seniors with volunteer opportunities while enhancing student achievement.

School-Police Partnership

Strengthening the partnership between our police and schools is essential. I aim to enhance school safety through measures like license plate readers at entrances/exits, classroom door barricade sticks, and ID scanners for admittance.

Community Safety

We need to expand our safety forces and secure a site for a second fire station to ensure swift emergency response times and further protect our community.

Economic Growth

I will work to attract high-paying businesses like Bendix, Cleveland Clinic, and Wickens Herzer Panza to boost our tax base, keep taxes low, and create career opportunities for Avon graduates.

Cable and Internet

I will strongly encourage wireless cable companies to enter Avon, providing residents with choices beyond Spectrum for their cable and Internet needs.

Avon School-Business Partnership

I created relationships with Mitchell's Ice Cream and Heinen's grocery store, allowing students with special needs from Avon High School to learn real-world work skills throughout the school year.

Avon's Candlelight Walk - French Creek District

I forged a lasting partnership between the French Creek District's Candlelight Walk Committee and the Bay Presbyterian Special Needs Ministry, delivering events with Santa for adults and children with special needs.

Non-Profit Initiatives

I played a vital role in organizing a first-time Special Needs Prom, benefiting 200 adults and involving 300 volunteers.

Disability Awareness

I led the initiative to provide second graders at Avon East with disability awareness lessons that focused on compassion and acceptance. I also volunteered to teach in all second-grade classrooms for three years.

Avon's Every Child's Playground

I consulted with the initial committee for Avon's Every Child's Playground by the Aquatic Center, per Mayor Jensen's request.

New Playground at Avon Village School

I led the initiative, wrote grants, and procured donations to fund the playground at Avon Village School.
MY FAMILY
My family is at the core of my life, and together, we share a profound commitment to Avon's community and progress. With 28 years of unwavering support from my husband, Dennis McBride, and our two incredible children, Grace and Jack, who epitomize our shared values, we're united in our vision for Avon. As I run for City Council, it's our collective dedication to building a stronger, more vibrant community that fuels our passion. Just as we've worked together to nurture our family, we believe in nurturing the future of Avon, championing progress, and fostering a sense of togetherness. Join us in this journey towards a brighter Avon, one where we all thrive.
